100 Years of Ella
Beginning on the 1st of April, the Downing-Gross Cultural Art Center in Newport News, VA. is celebrating the centennial of the great Ella Fitzgerald. One of my favorite aspects of this adventure is knowing that members of her family are directly involved in this celebration of Ella's life and career. One hundred artists were invited to submit work to help celebrate this event and I was lucky enough to be one of them.
We were asked to choose a song of Ella's that inspired us that was accompanied with our submission. The song "Reach for Tomorrow" was my choice and did it ever ring true.
The submitted artwork is scheduled to be displayed at the art center for two months and then travel internationally to sister cities of Newport News. Places that include Neyagawa Japan, Taizhou China, Geifswald Germany and Friendship cities in Saint-Azaire, France and ZiYang, China. How exciting is that?! I'm hoping to be able to get down to the Downing-Gross Cultural Art Center while it's on display there. I know that it's going to be a great gallery.
So you want to know which photo that I submitted to go along with "Reach for Tomorrow"? Ok... here it is, submitted on canvas at 20"x30". Tell me what you think.
